Abstract

Among the factors contributing to the development of secondary osteoporosis
are gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as its surgical treatment [3]. Drugs in the group
of proton pump inhibitors are also widely used in medicine in the conservative treatment
of inflammatory and ulcerative diseases of the stomach and duodenum, leading to the
development of osteopenic syndrome in patients [2]. In addition, weight loss is observed
in most patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers, which is one of the risk factors for
osteoporosis [4]. The etiopathogenic role of gastric and duodenal surgeries in the development
of osteoporosis has not been fully elucidated. There are no prophylactic and therapeutic
measures to prevent the occurrence of osteopenia in patients with ulcers and after their
surgical treatment [1, 5].
